Bill overview
The Continued Presence Improvement Act expands protections for victims of human trafficking by allowing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to grant continued presence in the United States even if they aren't involved in a criminal investigation. It broadens the types of agencies that can request this permission, including local law enforcement, and extends the duration of continued presence until an immigration application is resolved. The bill also provides employment authorization to those receiving this protection and directs federal agencies to develop policies and training to facilitate the use of this program.
