Bill overview
Billy’s Law aims to improve the identification and recovery of missing persons and unidentified remains by strengthening the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs). The bill authorizes funding for NamUs, requires data sharing between NamUs and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database, and provides incentive grants to state and local law enforcement agencies to enhance reporting of missing person and unidentified remains cases. It also mandates reporting of missing children to NamUs and establishes a plan for secure data transmission between these systems.
