Bill overview
The Drone Integration and Zoning Act aims to balance the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) authority over airspace with the rights of landowners and state, local, and tribal governments to regulate drone operations. It requires the FAA to designate airspace between 200 and 400 feet for civil drones, authorize drone operations with property owner permission, preserve local restrictions below 200 feet, and establish a process for designating commercial routes above 200 feet. The bill also clarifies that the FAA’s authority doesn’t preempt state and local zoning powers and addresses commercial carriage of property by small drones.
