Bill overview
The Faster Payments to Veterans’ Survivors Act of 2022 aims to speed up the process of paying life insurance benefits to veterans’ survivors. It reduces the timeframe for beneficiaries to file claims from two to one year, and from four to two years for subsequent claims. The bill also clarifies how the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) should determine beneficiaries if a designated beneficiary doesn’t claim the benefits, and it directs the VA to improve its efforts to locate and distribute unclaimed life insurance funds to veterans’ families.
