Bill overview
This bill, the Protect Drinking Water from PFAS Act of 2021, directs the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to establish legal limits, called maximum contaminant levels (MCLs), for certain chemicals known as PFAS in drinking water. Specifically, the EPA must create regulations for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), two common PFAS compounds. The regulations will prioritize protecting vulnerable populations and utilize available scientific data to assess health risks.
