Bill overview
The Walter Reed Injury Recovery (WIRe) Act of 2021 requires the Department of Defense to provide timely access to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for U.S. government employees and their families who are experiencing specific, unexplained health conditions. The Secretary of Defense will assess these conditions and, if a diagnosis is made, provide treatment at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence within the medical center. This legislation aims to ensure that government employees and their families receive necessary medical care for these conditions. The Department must also establish a process to guarantee this access within 60 days of the bill’s enactment.
