The Audit the Pentagon Act of 2021 aims to improve the financial accountability of the Department of Defense by reducing funding for any part of the Department that fails to receive an unqualified audit opinion on its financial statements. If a department or agency doesn't meet this standard, their budget will be reduced by 1%, and those funds will be used to help reduce the national deficit. This legislation seeks to incentivize the Department of Defense to improve its financial reporting and oversight.
