Bill overview
The Law Enforcement Officers Equity Act amends federal retirement laws to include certain federal employees, such as IRS investigators, Postal Inspection Service agents, VA police officers, and CBP seized property specialists, within the definition of ‘law enforcement officer’ for retirement purposes. It allows for retroactive recognition of their service as law enforcement officers, with options for incumbents to make elections to receive credit for prior service and contribute to the Civil Service Retirement and Disability Fund. The bill also temporarily exempts law enforcement officers from mandatory separation during a three-year period following enactment.
