Bill overview
The Accessing Satellite Data to Enable New Discoveries Act, or ASCEND Act, aims to formalize and expand NASA’s use of commercial satellite data. It requires NASA to establish a program to identify, acquire, and disseminate this data to support scientific research, operational needs, and educational purposes. The bill builds on a successful pilot program and seeks to increase access to commercial Earth remote sensing data for a wider range of users, including Federal agencies and researchers beyond NASA’s direct funding.
