Bill overview
This bill, the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act of 2023, aims to increase the United States’ ability to export and import natural gas. It repeals certain restrictions within the Natural Gas Act that previously required the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to consider the ‘public interest’ when approving natural gas exports or imports. The bill also gives FERC exclusive authority over the approval process for facilities involved in these activities, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, while also preserving the President’s authority to impose sanctions on foreign entities.
