Bill overview
This bill changes Medicare rules to allow doctors to dispense prescription drugs and related supplies to patients outside of their offices, without violating certain restrictions related to self-referral for payments. Currently, doctors must dispense these medications within their office to qualify for an exception under the Stark Law. The bill, effective May 11, 2023, removes guidance from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that previously limited this practice. It also removes outdated FAQs related to these restrictions.
