Bill overview
This bill, the Conservation Reserve Program Amendments Act of 2023, allows the Department of Agriculture to enroll citrus land in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). CRP is a program that pays farmers to take environmentally sensitive land out of agricultural production. Specifically, the bill allows for the enrollment of citrus land that has been used for citrus crops within the past 10 years, prioritizing land at risk of development, affected by citrus greening disease, or important for ecological restoration. The total acreage of citrus land enrolled will be limited to 100,000 acres per year from 2024-2028, and citrus land will not be subject to existing income limitations for CRP payments.
