Bill overview
The Continued Presence Improvement Act aims to help victims of severe human trafficking remain in the United States while their cases are investigated or prosecuted, or while they pursue civil legal action. It expands the authority of Homeland Security to grant continued presence to trafficking victims, allowing them to stay for up to two years (potentially extended) and receive employment authorization. The bill also facilitates the process for law enforcement and relatives of trafficking victims to request deferred action and work permits, and requires federal agencies to develop policies and training to support the identification and granting of continued presence.
