Bill overview
The Lead by Example Act of 2023 directs the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency to raise the minimum thermostat temperature in their headquarters buildings. Specifically, thermostats must be set to at least 78 degrees Fahrenheit when air conditioning is in use. The bill also requires these agencies to report back to Congress within 90 days of enactment detailing the temperatures they’ve been maintaining. This aims to demonstrate energy conservation practices.
