Bill overview
This bill aims to increase access to fruits and vegetables for low-income Americans by strengthening the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP). It reauthorizes the program and provides increased federal funding over the next five years (2024-2028). GusNIP currently supports projects that offer incentives when SNAP benefits are used to purchase produce and provides ‘produce prescriptions’ to encourage healthier eating habits. The bill seeks to expand these efforts and reach more people.
