Bill overview
This bill changes the Emergency Food Assistance Act to allow certain states to use federal funds to directly buy food commodities from private sellers instead of receiving those commodities from the USDA. Currently, the USDA purchases food and distributes it to states. This bill would allow states to receive cash equivalent to the USDA’s purchase price, giving them more flexibility in acquiring food for those in need. The goal is to improve the efficiency and responsiveness of food assistance programs at the state level.
