Bill overview
The PFAS-Free Procurement Act of 2024 aims to reduce the use of harmful chemicals called PFAS in government purchases. Starting in October 2025, federal agencies will be prohibited from buying new items containing perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) or perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), such as nonstick cookware and stain-resistant furniture. The bill encourages agencies to prioritize purchasing products that don’t include these chemicals when suitable options are available.
