Bill overview
This bill requires the Department of Energy to create rules for reporting cybersecurity incidents and potential incidents affecting the nation’s critical electric infrastructure. These rules will mandate that federal agencies and companies operating the electric grid report such incidents to the Department of Energy within 24 hours of discovery. The Department of Energy will also be designated as the central point for receiving these reports and will submit annual reports to Congress detailing the notifications received and actions taken. This aims to improve the government’s ability to respond to and mitigate threats to the electric grid.
