Bill overview
The Energy Consumer Protection Act of 2023 aims to strengthen enforcement of regulations related to electricity and natural gas markets. It allows the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to temporarily or permanently ban individuals or companies from participating in energy trading if they violate market rules or provide false information. The bill also prohibits the willful filing of false information about natural gas sales and transportation, and grants the Commission the authority to suspend or prohibit individuals engaging in related business activities for such violations.
