The Teachers LEAD Act of 2023 aims to address the ongoing teacher shortage and turnover crisis in the United States by providing grants to eligible entities to establish and operate teacher leadership programs. These programs will focus on empowering teachers to take on leadership roles, improve school climate, and ultimately boost teacher retention. The Department of Education will coordinate with the Department of the Interior to develop and implement teacher leadership programs specifically for Bureau of Indian Education schools. An independent evaluation of these grant activities will be conducted by the Institute of Education Sciences.
