Overview

The CCP Fentanyl Sanctions Act authorizes the President to impose sanctions on foreign individuals and entities, particularly those in China, that contribute to the production and distribution of illicit synthetic narcotics, often referred to as fentanyl. It builds upon existing sanctions related to drug trafficking and expands the scope to include Chinese online marketplaces, government entities, and those facilitating precursor chemical sales. The Act also establishes a process for Congress to request sanctions and receive updates on the President’s decisions, and allows for waivers based on national interests.
