Bill overview
This bill, titled the Standing Up to the Executive branch for Immigration Enforcement Act, grants state attorneys general the ability to sue the Department of Homeland Security if they believe immigration policies are causing harm to their state or its residents. Specifically, it allows states to challenge decisions related to alien detention, release, and parole, as well as visa granting, seeking injunctive relief in federal court. The bill also modifies certain sections of the Immigration and Nationality Act to clarify standing for state officials in these types of legal actions.
