Bill overview
The Coastal Communities Ocean Acidification Act of 2023 aims to strengthen the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) collaboration with state, local, and tribal governments, as well as Indian Tribes, to address the impacts of ocean acidification. It requires NOAA to improve its engagement with these entities in conducting vulnerability assessments, research planning, and climate action, and to incorporate indigenous knowledge. The bill also mandates the Ocean Acidification Advisory Board to include representatives from affected tribes and enhances NOAA’s ability to coordinate with these communities on relevant activities.
