Bill overview
This bill, the Censorship Accountability Act, creates a legal pathway for individuals to sue federal employees who allegedly violate First Amendment rights. It establishes a ‘right of action’ allowing citizens to pursue legal remedies against federal employees when their First Amendment rights are suppressed. Importantly, the bill excludes federal employees from suing their employers or the federal government for actions taken within their official roles. The act also allows courts to award attorney’s fees to the prevailing party in successful lawsuits.
