Bill overview
The BRAVE Burma Act extends the timeframe for sanctions enforcement under the existing Burma sanctions regime by 10 years. It requires the President to annually assess whether specific individuals and entities, including state-owned enterprises and the Myanma Economic Bank, meet the criteria for sanctions. Additionally, the bill directs the Treasury Secretary to limit any increase in state ownership of Burmese entities if the country is under the control of the State Administration Council and establishes a Special Coordinator within the State Department to coordinate U.S. diplomatic efforts to promote human rights and a return to civilian government in Burma.
