Bill overview
The Buck Stops Here Act allows the Treasury Department to take action against financial institutions and transactions linked to the laundering of illicit fentanyl. If the Treasury Secretary determines that a foreign financial institution, transaction, or account is a primary concern in connection with fentanyl trafficking, they can require domestic financial institutions to report specific transactions or prohibit funds from being transmitted through them. The bill also addresses the use of classified information in these decisions and mandates a report to Congress within a year outlining further steps to combat money laundering related to fentanyl.
