Bill overview
This bill, the Justice for ALS Veterans Act of 2023, expands benefits for the surviving spouses of veterans who died from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). It ensures that these spouses receive increased dependency and indemnity compensation, regardless of how long the veteran had ALS before their death, provided they were married for at least eight years. The bill also directs the Department of Veterans Affairs to investigate and report on other service-connected disabilities with high mortality rates to determine if they should receive similar treatment.
