Bill overview
The Unauthorized Spending Accountability Act aims to reduce funding for certain federal programs that lack permanent authorization. It establishes a three-year cycle of budget reductions for these ‘unauthorized’ programs, starting in fiscal year 2024, with reductions increasing to 15% in subsequent years. Programs that consistently face these reductions will be terminated after three years, unless reauthorized with a limited authorization period. Programs explicitly reauthorized during the budget cycle will be exempt from these reductions.
