Bill overview
The Inflation Prevention Act of 2023 establishes a rule in both the House and Senate to prevent the consideration of budget bills that are projected to increase inflation. Specifically, legislation providing new budget authority will be blocked if the annualized rate of inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index, exceeds 4.5%. The Senate can temporarily waive this rule with a three-fifths vote, and the Congressional Budget Office will provide estimates of the potential impact on inflation.
