Bill overview
This bill, the Federal Accountability in Interviews Reform Act (FAIR Act), aims to increase transparency and accountability within the Department of Justice by requiring audio recordings of interviews with U.S. citizens suspected of federal crimes. It applies to interviews conducted by DOJ officers, both domestically and internationally, except for communications with confidential informants. The recordings must be retained for a set period, with an exception for cases involving capital offenses. Statements not recorded will be inadmissible in federal court.
