Bill overview
This bill permanently authorizes the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to use non-VA doctors, hired through contracts, to conduct disability examinations for veterans. Currently, the VA utilizes a pilot program for this purpose, which is being terminated. The bill aims to improve access to these examinations, particularly for veterans in rural areas, by allowing contract physicians to practice across state lines without specific state licensure requirements, as long as their duties align with the contract. Funds for these examinations will come from existing VA operating budgets.
