Bill overview
This bill, the Wearable Equipment Adoption and Reinforcement and Investment in Technology Act (WEAR IT Act), amends tax laws to allow individuals to use health savings accounts (HSAs), Archer MSAs, and flexible spending/reimbursement accounts to pay for certain wearable devices. Specifically, it expands the definition of ‘qualified medical expenses’ to include wearable devices that collect and analyze physiological data for health purposes, up to a maximum of $375 per year. The changes will take effect on December 31, 2023, for distributions from savings accounts and for expenses incurred after that date.
