Bill overview
The Savings for Servicemembers Act changes the tax deduction available to members of the National Guard and Reserve components. Currently, these service members must travel at least 100 miles from their primary residence to qualify for an above-the-line deduction for travel expenses. This bill lowers that requirement to 50 miles, making it easier for these service members to claim this tax benefit. The changes will take effect starting in 2023.
