Bill overview
This bill seeks to permanently extend the ‘first right of refusal’ for Tribal assets. Currently, when a mixed-blood member of a tribe wants to sell property held by the tribe, the tribe has the first opportunity to purchase it before anyone else. This bill strengthens this existing process, ensuring the tribe always has the initial chance to acquire these assets. It also requires the Secretary to maintain a list of property owners and notify them of this obligation annually.
