Bill overview
The Vehicle Energy Performance Act of 2024 aims to incentivize the production and purchase of more fuel-efficient vehicles. It establishes a refundable tax credit for new qualified high energy performance motor vehicles, based on their energy performance compared to the median and best vehicles of the previous year. The bill also introduces an excise tax on vehicles with low energy performance, beginning in 2028, and mandates reporting of vehicle energy performance data by manufacturers. Finally, it modifies the gas guzzler tax and includes provisions for dual-fueled automobiles.
