Bill overview
This bill, the Catching Up Family Caregivers Act of 2024, allows certain family caregivers who are unemployed or severely underemployed to make additional ‘catch-up’ contributions to their retirement accounts, such as an IRA. These caregivers must have provided at least 500 hours of in-home care, monitoring, or treatment for a child or adult with special needs during a tax year and have fewer than 500 hours of paid employment during that same year. The bill provides a limit on how many years this benefit can be claimed.
