The Keep Our Streets Safe Act of 2024 aims to ensure that federal grant money for crime prevention is distributed fairly. Specifically, it requires states to consider an individual’s potential danger to the community when setting bail or deciding on pretrial release. States that don't follow this standard or have policies sealing criminal records of felons may have their grant funding reduced. The funds will then be redirected to local law enforcement agencies within those states.
