Bill overview
The Global Respect Act aims to hold foreign governments and individuals accountable for human rights abuses against LGBTQI individuals. It establishes a process for the President to identify and sanction those responsible for torture, unlawful detention, disappearance, or denial of fundamental rights based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The bill also includes provisions for visa restrictions and a reporting requirement for Congress on the implementation and impact of these sanctions, as well as tracking violence and discrimination against LGBTQI people globally.
