Bill overview
The Humane Accountability Act requires the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Health and Human Services to report to Congress and the Government Accountability Office about incidents involving detainees held by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Office of Refugee Resettlement. This report will detail assaults, abuse, sexual assault, deaths, and complaints related to detainees. The Government Accountability Office will then analyze the report and provide Congress with recommendations to improve detainee care and accountability within these agencies.
