Bill overview
The Freight Rail Workforce Health and Safety Act requires Class I railroads to provide employees with at least seven days of paid sick leave per year, which can be carried over to the following year. It also establishes rules around when paid sick leave can be used, including for illnesses, caregiving responsibilities, and situations related to domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Furthermore, the bill aims to strengthen safety risk reduction programs by preventing approval of plans from carriers that don't comply with sick leave requirements and prohibits retaliation against employees for using sick leave.
