Bill overview
This bill would allow asylum seekers in the United States to work while their applications are being processed. Currently, asylum applicants are generally not permitted to work. The bill amends existing law to grant employment authorization to eligible asylum applicants who are not detained and whose applications haven't been deemed frivolous, with the authorization lasting until a final denial of the application. It also reduces the waiting period for receiving this authorization to 30 days after filing the application.
