Bill overview
This bill, the Lethal Means Safety Training Act, requires the Department of Veterans Affairs to update its suicide prevention and lethal means safety training course. The Secretary must consult with a wide range of experts, including mental health professionals, firearms experts, and veterans organizations, to ensure the training is culturally appropriate and utilizes best practices. All employees and certain caregivers who interact with veterans or provide support to them must complete the updated training, and the Department will make the training materials publicly available online.
