Overview
This bill changes the leadership structure within the Indian Health Service. It elevates the Director of the Indian Health Service to the position of Assistant Secretary for Indian Health, reporting directly to the Secretary of Health and Human Services. The bill also clarifies reporting requirements and establishes a Deputy Assistant Secretary to support the Assistant Secretary’s duties. These changes aim to strengthen the oversight and administration of healthcare services for Native American communities.
