Bill overview
The Rebuilding Rural Roads Act changes how the federal government defines ‘rural area’ for the Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program. Currently, a rural area needed to be outside an urbanized area with over 200,000 residents to qualify for these grants. This bill lowers that threshold to 20,000 residents, expanding the number of communities eligible to receive funding for road and infrastructure improvements. The goal is to improve transportation options and economic opportunities in smaller, rural communities.
