This bill, the Erie Canal Bicentennial Commemorative Coin Act, directs the U.S. Treasury to create and sell special coins to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal. The Treasury will produce $5 gold coins, $1 silver coins, and half-dollar clad coins, with all sales proceeds going to the Erie Canalway Heritage Fund to support preservation and educational programs. The coins will feature designs selected after consultation with relevant committees and will be sold at prices covering their production costs plus a surcharge.
