Bill overview
This bill officially designates two historic trails – the Chisholm National Historic Trail and the Western National Historic Trail – recognizing their importance in 19th-century cattle drives. The Chisholm Trail, used primarily for cattle movement from Texas to Kansas, and the Western Trail, used for cattle movement from Texas to Dodge City, Kansas, are now formally part of the National Trails System. The Department of the Interior will administer these trails, focusing on non-federal land with the consent of the landowner, and without using eminent domain or condemnation.
