Bill overview
The Returning Home Act amends the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to create the Reentry Rental Assistance and Housing Services Grant Program. This program aims to provide rental assistance, stipends, and supportive services to individuals recently released from incarceration, including those in prisons, jails, juvenile facilities, or halfway houses, to prevent homelessness and housing instability. The grants will be distributed to eligible organizations and prioritize those using a ‘housing first’ approach and serving populations at high risk of incarceration and homelessness.
