Bill overview
The Clean Slate Act of 2023 aims to help people with past federal criminal records by automatically sealing certain records. Specifically, it will automatically seal records for convictions of simple possession of a controlled substance or marijuana offenses, or for arrests that didn’t result in a conviction. Additionally, individuals who meet specific criteria can petition the court to seal records related to other nonviolent convictions. The bill also provides a process for petitioning to seal records for offenses that aren't automatically sealed.
