Bill overview
This bill, the Mass Immigration Reduction Act of 2024, proposes a five-year moratorium on immigration to the United States. During this period, the number of legal immigrants allowed would be significantly reduced, with family-sponsored immigration capped at 5,000, employment-based immigration at 5,000, and diversity immigration at zero. The bill also requires the President to report to Congress demonstrating a reduction in illegal immigration below 10,000 per year and that increased legal immigration wouldn't negatively impact public resources. Furthermore, it restricts refugee admissions to 25,000 annually and introduces stricter requirements for naturalization, including renunciation of other citizenships.
