Bill overview
The Ultrasound Informed Consent Act requires abortion providers to offer women an ultrasound and the opportunity to view it before undergoing an abortion. Before an abortion, a provider must perform an ultrasound, explain what it shows, display the images for the woman to see, and provide a detailed medical description of the ultrasound. There are exceptions for situations where a woman’s life is endangered by a pregnancy-related condition, and she can choose not to view the ultrasound images without penalty. The bill also establishes penalties for providers who violate these requirements.
